Kozi

Location: Frick Middle School (2845 64th Ave, Oakland)

Born in San Francisco in 1955, Kozi moved with family to Oakland, growing up on 73rd and East 14th (now International Boulevard), across from Frick Middle School, where he attended. From transitioning out of Catholic school into public school, to coming out in high school and taking day trips to Los Angeles, Kozi carries vivid stories of growing up in Oakland. His journey later took him to New York City, where he lived through the AIDS crisis, incarceration, and a singing career. Today, Kozi serves as Programs Outreach Coordinator at PEERS and is the founder and director of The Traveling Voice and The Sounds of Joy.
